Volunteering

Dig Deeper is a community event and it is driven by the community. It relies on volunteers helping out with this and that. The core of the event are the activities that run throughout the day and if you want to run one or help organize or whatever, you are more than welcome! Just contact us using the contact form below and let us know what you would like to do.

We also need people to make sure to provide all the other little things that will make Dig Deeper a pleasant place to be: decorating the venue, making coffee, presenting a friendly face at the registration desk and many other small things. Volunteers for the duration of the event will be drafted using the registration form, the same as for The Blues Garden, but we would be very happy for some help before and after the event too. This is where most of our work setting up the venue and tearing it all down again afterwards happens.

If you arrive early for the event or leave late and would like to spend more time with us (help us set up or take down), and also get a unique chance to see us at our very best (tired and stressed out), let us know using the contact form below, or by contacting us via any other means you have at your disposal. We will love you forever.

Our Vision

Within the blues dancing community in Göteborg we pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendliness to newcomers, on our open-mindedness when it comes to inspiration and individual expression and of course on our cozy fika. When we ran our own workshop, The Blues Garden, in the spring of 2014, we were determined to make sure all of these good things would remain intact. We do not just want to run a weekend workshop like any other; we want to share with you, our guests, some of what makes us all enjoy our community so much - our community spirit, if you will.

Our vision, then, is to run an event where everyone feels equally welcome; dark or fair, short or tall, lead or follow or ambidancetrous; where everyone feels comfortable dancing with everyone; where we can all enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed atmosphere, share a meal or a drink, chat about things inconsequential or world-changing, then celebrate it all with a dance. We’d like you to come share this vision with us!

Organizers

Dig Deeper is organized by the Blues Gardeners, best known for running another well-renowned event called The Blues Garden. We’re a group of dedicated blues dancers and friends, who in the fall of 2013 decided to try organizing a workshop. As it turns out, we had so much fun that we simply had to do it again. And again. And again. Now, we wanted to try something new!

Our meetings tend to start with group hugs, continue with fika and lengthy discussions and dreaming, and end with blues dancing in someone’s living room (or kitchen) - unless the discussions drag on for too long, which is more often than not…

This year’s organizers are Sebastian, Kristin, Johanna, Lisa, Mattias and Kristian.

Göteborg blues dance scene

The blues dancing community in Göteborg is vibrant and healthy. Around 30 dancers show up for the Tuesday is Bluesday weekly social dance. These events are not run by anyone in particular: anyone who wishes to help is welcome to stop by early and prepare fika or carry tables and chairs.

Every other Tuesday is Bluesday begins with a 30 minute teacher-led taster followed by blues tracks spun by our official DJs, whereas every other is community night where anyone can kick the night off with a half-hour skillshare and anyone who wants to is encouraged to try their hand at DJ-ing the blues.

Now and then we organize dance nights on a Friday or Saturday night, sometimes with live acts, and there are classes throughout the semester.

We are a part of the swing dance society West Coast Jitterbugs.
